Water re-use

Water which started as mains supply water and has been used for baths, shower, rinsing cycles of washing machines is classed as "grey" water.  You can re-use domestic grey water and collected rainwater for several applications. This can be a real money saver if you are a large family and/or on a water meter.

Water is collected, filtered, and sterilised by UV light before re-use. It is kept in a large  tank (often underground) and is fed to a second storage tank in your loft when required. It can then be used as normal through a separate pipework system for flushing toilets and watering the garden just as if it were coming from the water main.

Systems are commercially available to buy and install, or can be configured from component parts available 'off the shelf', to suit your requirements and budget.
